Module 1: Lesson 7

Collecting & Measuring

Let's start tracking and measuring!

Now that you’ve learned a bit about food waste, I’m sure you’re naturally wondering what you can do to reduce it.

Cutting grocery costs starts by becoming aware of how much food—and money—you are currently wasting.  To cultivate this awareness, take a close look at what you throw out each week and think about it mindfully. It may seem challenging at first, but it only needs to be done once to make an impact.

This isn't a required step, but I encourage you to try it, especially if you’re a parent. It’s an eye-opening experience that motivates you to reduce food waste.

For parents, awareness helps prevent overbuying, reduces waste, and encourages creative ways to use leftovers. For kids, it becomes a shared commitment and a chance to learn. Turn it into a game—set a family goal to cut down on food waste, and reward yourselves when you succeed.

This approach inspires your kids to take part, makes them feel proud of their progress, and motivates the entire family to make sustainable choices.
