Module 1: Lesson 9
Mindfulness Practice 2 Into the Garden
Welcome to our second mindfulness practice -- Into the Garden.
A meditation about walking into a garden can be incredibly helpful for fostering mindfulness around food and developing a deeper respect for it. Here are some things to focus on during the meditation:
Connection to Nature: By imagining a garden, you connect with the natural sources of your food. This helps you appreciate the time, effort, and care it takes for plants to grow and bear fruit. It reminds you that food doesn’t just appear on a shelf; it comes from the Earth.
Gratitude and Awareness: Walking through a garden in your mind allows you to slow down and notice the abundance around you. The colors, textures, and smells of fruits and vegetables can spark gratitude for the nourishment they provide. This encourages mindful eating, where you focus on the experience and the value of the food you consume.
Awareness of the Cycle: A garden represents the full cycle of food, from seed to harvest. Visualizing this process helps you respect the journey food takes before reaching your plate, promoting mindfulness about not wasting it and using it thoughtfully.
Calming and Focused Mindset: Meditation helps clear your mind and brings a sense of calm. When you approach food from a place of calm mindfulness, you’re more likely to make intentional choices, reducing impulsive or wasteful behaviors around food.
We have attached again the new meditators guide. You might find it is helpful.
As always, we want to hear what you think over in the Facebook group, especially if this is new to you. Head over and tell us all about your experience... and see you in a few days!
Here is What's Coming Next
Now that you're in a mindful foodie mindset, we encourage you to listen to the meditations—if not daily, then whenever you feel the need to connect with the gifts around you or need a moment for yourself.
Now it's time to reflect on what we've learned, especially regarding the food you've been throwing out. In the next lesson, you'll explore this further, and we've included a fun family activity to open up discussion and get everyone working together as a team.
